I guess a few of people are curious about my reading ability. I am a good reader and I love reading but I am listening to the Book of Mormon on CD. I have a 30 min. commute each way to work. I bought the CDs last year. I was in the middle of reading the Book of Mormon from my "Family Book of Mormon" so I started listening to the CDs of the D&C while Jake was in seminary. I haven't ever read the D&C in book format before, and it was kind of trippy, especially because the narrators voice is very authoritative. So I wasn't super motivated.
Now my "Family Book of Mormon" reading has been a slow thorough study, trying to really grasp meaning and history, cross referencing. The Family Book of Mormon has lots of extra insights and details. BUT... I have been dragging it out and not consistent with my study. Then the Hinckley Challenge came along and I thought this will motivate me to read it quickly. I signed up online and started listening to the CDs while driving to work. It is a whole new way of understanding the Book of Mormon. Its different having it read to you. I pick up different things in stories and have time to contemplate what that must have been like to live through some of these events. I've been told that you gain different things from different reading styles and that there is benefits in all types of reading of the Book of Mormon. I highly recommend audio. I think everyone should try it.

MOVIES
Friday I spent the afternoon out with the Asdel women. My mother in law Lynn, was feeling badly that she had not done anything with me to celebrate my birthday. So we arranged to go out to lunch and a movie. I suggested Juno, neither Robyn or Lynn had seen it. But we quickly realized that the little girls didn't have school on Friday and I didn't think that was a good movie for Deven and Ethina. The first scene in Juno is an interesting sex scene. Its PG-13 but you know they are having sex. So the other movie that I wanted to see was Spiderwick. We went to lunch at BJs (it was ok) then off to the movie. I haven't read the spiderwick books but I knew the premise of the book. Deven my 10 year old niece has read a couple of the books. This was a good movie. The animation of the fantasy characters was really good. I enjoyed the story as well.
Later that same night Eddie and I were just doing nothing so I said do you want to go see "Jumper". There was one more showing for the evening so we went to the 9:20pm showing. The adds for this movie look really good. This movie had great potential. They built a really good story up and there was lots of action but they ended the movie with only half the story told. It was over and we were like wait what about this guy, what happened to him...? Who is that girl...? And what about this? They didnt solve any of the story lines. Eddie and I were wondering if they ran out of budget and just quit. It was a huge let down. So for my movie wrap up:
Juno- good movie for adults
Spiderwick- good movie for families
Jumper- LAME

Valentines
Tuesday night was homemaking night or whatever the heck they call it now. I'm on the enrichment committee so now I have to show up. I hate crafty stuff so I didn't sign up. I was going to run the nursery. Then the 2nd counselor came up to me on Sunday and said I noticed that you haven't signed up and we have a few more kits... So I signed up for one cookie bouquet. I hurried from work to get there on time and I was only 10min late but still in my scrubs :(
The bouquet was easy to put together (Thank Goodness) I was enjoying myself talking to some of the YW who came and then I was interrupted. The lady doing the class informed me that my sister in law had signed up and paid for 3 cookie bouquets and didn't come! She wanted me to put them together for her. I told her "No, just give her the money back". But then I realized she bought all the supplies and that I should be nice. So I cut, measured and wrapped all the materials for 3 more bouquets, put them in a bag and dropped it off at her house.
Of course when I got there I felt bad because she said she was under the weather and forgot about it until I got there. So now she has a craft activity to do with Deven and Ethina. I bet they eat the cookies first! ;)

My Birthday
We celebrated my 39th Birthday in traditional Asdel fashion. We went on a snowboarding trip to Mammoth. I was really excited to go snowboarding. I hadn't been to Mammoth this season yet and that is unusual.
Jake and Eddie have gone up a few times and have really been enjoying the season. Eddie flew Morgan home to join us. We drove up really early on Friday morning so that we could get a full day of riding in. We found out that the roads into Mammoth had been closed from 4 am until about 10 am because of snow and wind. We came through just after the roads opened up. Went straight to the condo to get ready to hit the slopes and all that fresh snow. Jake and Andrew were ready to go and left ahead of the rest of us. Morgan, Eddie and I decided to eat lunch and then go. Eddie took Morgan and I up to Canyon Lodge. It was snowing and the wind was howling... So we decided to go back to the condo and stay warm. Saturday morning- Jake & Andrew are up and ready to go!
Eddie drives them up to the Lodge, and calls me to let me know that the wind is really strong and its supposed to get better in the afternoon. So we wait. Finally Eddie and I decide to go out and see how long we last. Morgan said forget it I'm staying in the condo.

Eddie and I bundled up and headed out. We took a few runs. The snow was awesome. Visibility was getting really bad and the winds were strong, so we called it a day after about an hour.
That night we went out to dinner to celebrate my birthday. The food was really good and I had mud pie for dessert.
The next day the whole mountain was closed and so were the roads leading out. The mountain opened 2 lifts by noon. One was a beginner lift and the other was intermediate. The winds were so strong, I didn't want to go out. Jake went up to the mountain and rode in the park and learned how to do front flips. Eddie rode for awhile and said he never had better snow. Morgan and I stayed under blankets and watched TV.
We left Mammoth that evening. Got back home to Ventura after midnight. Went to bed around 2 am. I got up early the next morning to get Morgan down to to airport and then I was off to work.
It was great to see Morgan and hang out in Mammoth with the family. But the weekend didn't go exactly as I was hoping for. I really wanted to snowboard. And of course, this weekend the sun is out and the winds are calm in Mammoth.
