The call no mother wants to get

Yesterday (April 29th) Eddie got the call that we always fear. Eddie came into the room I work in and said "Jake's OK but he was just hit by a truck on his bike" Eddie was on the phone with Jake and the policeman. Jake sounded ok on the phone but I was worried he might be a little more shaken up then he was letting on. So I called Morgan, who was at home and asked her to drive down the street and pick Jake up. She did, but Jake just wanted to walk his bike home. His bike he got for his birthday. When I got home from work the bike was in the entry way and Jake was on his way to his class at the college. Eddie checked out the bike and unfortunately the frame is bent. When Jake got home he explained that the guy in the truck turned in front of him and ran him over. Jake was clipped into his bike and the truck wheel was on his foot and the guy had to back the truck up to free Jake's foot. Jake hadn't wanted to look at his foot earlier, so now that he was home from school it was the first time he took his shoe off to look at it. It was very swollen. We told him he would have to go to the doctor in the morning to make sure it wasn't broken. Thank goodness Morgan is home, and she took him to the doctor to have his foot x-rayed this morning. It's not broken, just very swollen and bruised. The doctor said if the swelling doesn't go down by Friday that he would need a soft cast. Jake is really taking all of this in good stride. His bike is his prize possession and he puts alot of TLC into caring for it. These are a few pictures of his foot and his bike.

Quick trip

Last Friday I flew up to Salt Lake City just to hop in a car and drive back to Ventura.
Morgan finished her semester at BYU and it was time to come home for summer. Lucky girl gets a 4 month summer!
I was totally impressed that she was ready to go Saturday morning. I had no idea what to expect when I arrived. I didn't know if we would still be packing her car on Saturday and then hitting the road on Sunday or what.
But Morgan picked me up from the airport (she was on time) and then we went back to Provo and met some friends for lunch. We dropped Morgan's car off for an oil change and then went to Deseret Bookstore. After I looked at books until Morgan thought her legs were going to fall off, she then took me over to Jarrod and Jessica's house. I got to watch Alvin and the chipmunks with the girls! And eat dinner with them.
Later that evening I had to convince Maggie that I needed it to be a little darker outside before I went to bed. So once it was dark I crawled into bed and slept in a bunk bed with Mary! That next morning the girls were eager for me to get up. Leah made sure that I knew I was the last person still in bed :) We had breakfast, Maggie and Mary prepared the eggs. I watched Maggie stir and stir the eggs then she would pass the bowl to Mary, and Mary would give the eggs one quick stir and pass the bowl back to Maggie. This happened twice. I told the girls at breakfast that the eggs were very good, to which Maggie replied "Thats because Mary twirled them." I know understood. Soon after breakfast Morgan arrived with her car packed and ready to go. She could barely get my little suitcase in. But before we left, the Ribble girls showed me their bikes and Sarah got a wagon ride from Leah.
So Morgan and I left Provo at about 10:30 am. I wasn't even there for 24 hours.

Contest

The Ultimate Boarder contest wrapped up on Saturday with skateboarding. They built a 6 - 7 ft mini ramp.
Jake got to ride all day Friday and then his heat was Saturday morning. Jake performed really well. He finished the skateboard competition at the 21st spot. I tried to get some pictures of him riding the ramp, but it always seems like my camera is slow when it comes to action sports.
I'm hoping that this level of competition encourages Jake that he can compete at this level. There was only one guy younger then Jake, and he was 13 or 14 years old. Most of the competitors were pros in there 20's and 30's. The guy who won the $30,000.00 was 37. Jake met and made friends with athletes from Australia, and Colorado.

Friday night they had a block party downtown. They had a band that played and the Redbull Tank was there,(Incase you're wondering the significance of the redbull tank, I linked Jake's YouTube clip) and several local vendors and artists. The highlight of the evening was the Street course they set up for the skateboarders to ride. They had kids 12 and under skateboard for 15 min then they would switch to kids over 12 to skateboard for 15 min.  It was crazy to watch all these kids go for it. There are so many little kids and teenagers that really enjoy skating. The street party was a huge success. Hopefully we will get a real Skatepark here in Ventura. I know that may surprise you that we don't have a skatepark. They attempted to build 3 small ones several years ago in different parks, but the design was poor and they are so small that they aren't of much use.  Jake took every opportunity to skate at the mini ramp and the street course. I'm sure he had a good time and enjoyed the experience.

Cute blonde joke

My Dad sent me this cute joke. I liked it so I thought I would share it.

Football Explained by a Blonde

It FINALLY makes sense ........

A guy took his blonde girlfriend to her first football game. They
had great seats right behind their team's bench. After the game,
he asked her how she liked the experience.

"Oh, I really liked it," she replied, "especially the tight pants
and all the big muscles but I just couldn't understand why they
were killing each other over 25 cents."

Dumbfounded, her date asked, "What do you mean?"

"Well, they flipped a coin, one team got it and then for the rest
of the game, all they kept screaming was 'Get the quarterback! Get
the quarterback!'

"I'm like ..... Helloooooo? It's only 25 cents!!!"

Have a great day !!

Missionary Ideas

This is a picture of Hunter in Brazil with a family that was baptized last week. I am going to be sending Hunter a care package for his Birthday. I am asking for ideas of what other people have sent to missionaries or what missionaries liked receiving. For Christmas I sent some of his favorite candy and a new tie. Just for kicks let me know what you think would be a good care package for Hunter.

The article is about the ultimate boarder contest that he will be competing in next week. Jake made the front page of the paper with a color photo of him in our backyard on the halfpipe. He will compete in all three areas, snowboarding will be the first competition in Lake Tahoe, then the surfing will be held at C street in Ventura and finally skateboarding at the Ventura fairgrounds. The competion will run for a week to find the ultimate boarder.
