YES! on Prop 8

I just spent the better part of my morning calling registered voters in my area to see how they felt about proposition 8.
California is once again voting on how we define marriage. Proposition 8 would restore the definition of marriage to the one previously approved by the voters back in  2000, as between a man and a women.
If this proposition doesn't pass our public schools will have to teach in health classes that marriage is between any two adults.
This is what I find outrageous - Churches will be sued if they refuse to allow same sex marriages ceremonies in their religious buildings that are open to the public.
So calling people was kind of out of my comfort zone, but I did it! From what I gathered people in their 40's were undecided, 20's -30's were voting NO, and 50"s and up were voting YES
My calling lists had all political parties represented. I did have one lady agree to a yard sign! :)
I'm glad I finished my list, I understand the importance of gathering info on what voters are thinking. But I had a lot of disconnected phone numbers and answering machines. I guess I will have to put up a yard sign or a bumper sticker on my car (I don't do stickers on my car, so thats a big one for me) I'm not really excited about that because I would rather talk to people and tell them how I feel then have them see a sign and assume I'm against gays.

Lucee and Marley

Today I turned on the tv early in the morning (right after we got back from seminary) and started watching the national news about the financial bailout and the debate that may or may not happen. What a freaking mess! I can understand that the financial bailout is top priority, but I'm not sure how I feel about the debate being postponed, I can really see the importance on both sides of the fence on this one. That being said, I think it would be a mistake not to have the debate. So since all this political crap gets a little depressing I decided I need some comic relief...
Eddie bought Lucee a halloween costume the other day. It is a dinosaur with a cave man riding on her back. She wasn't sure she wanted to put it on, but once it was on she was ok with it. Lucee and Marley are very good buddies and play with each other all day long... here is a quick clip of the two of them.

Happy Birthday Jake

Today is Jake's 17th birthday.  We started out our day by going to breakfast at Cafe Nouveau.  Our friend Dave and his boys Max and Spencer joined us for Jake's birthday breakfast.  Last weekend Jake had the opportunity to fly to Salt  Lake City (for the 3rd weekend in a row) to attend the Dew Tour.  Morgan and Jake got 3 days of bmx bikes, motorcycles, and skateboard events to watch.  Jake was able to score some VIP passes and sit with the athletes for some of the events.  It was fun to hear all about it from both Morgan and Jake. It sounds like they really enjoyed themselves. (Attending the Dew Tour was what he got to do instead of a party)
This afternoon I made Jake a chocolate cake and we opened birthday presents :)
Of course Jake had to have a piece of cake warm and no icing.
Jake is a really great kid. He is intelligent, kind and genuine .  He likes to make stencils and then paint cool interesting designs or funny pictures on t-shirts. He likes photography and making videos, most of his videos are of skateboarding. He loves gadgets. He has a wide interest in several types of music.  Jake has the best smile in the world and if your lucky enough to see it... it will warm you heart!  I learn things from Jake all the time, he sees things differently then I do and when he shares his perspective with me I am usually enlightened in some way. I enjoy Jake so much. Happy Birthday Jake!

Genius

I was pleasantly surprised this morning with a new application on my i-tunes acct. It was time for an update on i- tunes software and to my surprise they have a new application called genius. I tried it out and its cool. You pick a song from your library of music and i-tunes will select from your library of music a play list of 25 songs that go with the one you picked. They also give you suggestions of songs that you don't have that you might like to purchase based off that one song you picked. I am really into my i-pod and I do the music at our dental office. Patients always comment on how much they enjoy the music at the office. Even if they have never heard it they say they are able to relax and enjoy it. I am always trying to keep our music current and not boring. I recently purchased Lenka and the new Ingrid Michaelson. Jake and Morgan are great for suggestions on music too. I was really pleased this summer when an album I shared with Morgan was something her friends were wanting to burn copies of and she told them that her mom found the group, oh in case you are wondering its Vampire Weekend (yes that's the name of the band) Anyway if you have an i-tunes account check out the new genius feature, its really fun.

I need ideas

HELP! I need ideas! Please help me... I've been asked to teach relief society (ugh)
I need some helpful ideas to make the lesson more interesting and not just a history lesson. I need an attention getter.
Anyone know of some good websites that has lesson helps or object lesson helps.
My lesson is on the plan of salvation. Any suggestions would be helpful and appreciated!

Back to BYU

Thursday Aug. 29th Morgan, Jake and I made our trek to Utah to take Morgan back up to school. Morgan and Jake came and picked me up at work. From there we went and dropped off the jetta at Burbank airport. Morgan drove most of the way to Las Vegas Thursday night. We arrived around midnight to sleep at the Excalibur. Friday morning we got started on the road at about 8:30 am. Jake wanted a tacky Las Vegas t-shirt. Our hotel shops weren't open yet so we stopped at a Walgreens and he found a pretty cool blue and white tye dyed effect t-shirt that said LAS VEGAS! Back onto the 15 north headed for Salt Lake City! Again Morgan did most of the driving. She did a great job! Morgan thinks that I think she is a bad driver... but I think she is a good driver! I just throw out my advice whenever I feel the need and sometimes, amazingly its good advice!
We arrive in Salt Lake City around 4:00 pm. And the rest of the weekend is spent getting Morgan ready to live on her own again. Trips to Wal-mart, groceries, and her storage unit. We set up her bed, and a bedside table. Morgan put together a futon and I hung shower curtains. (I give Morgan the hard stuff)
Thanks to Jesse and Jenn for loaning us Jenn's Yukon. :)
Jake in the mean time has a friend from his skateboard camp, that lives in Salt Lake and he went to 7 different skate parks. Salt Lake City is a great place for Jake, skateboard parks and snowboarding. Plus we saw a guy at Morgan's new apartment building that had a fixed gear bike and Jake found out about the local rides within an hour of us being there. Morgan and I just had to laugh, Jake has friends everywhere he goes and makes friends so easily. At one point I saw him ride away on his skateboard with 4 other guys looking like he owned the city rather then just visiting for the weekend.
Sunday brought in a thunder storm and the skies were grey, kind of matched my mood. I hate not living with Morgan and not seeing her everyday... We hung out and tried to get as much unpacking and organizing done as we could.
Monday morning came way too fast. Jake and I had an early flight back to Burbank. A tearful goodbye at the airport and a sad flight back to Cali.
Jake and I shuttled over to long term parking where we found the jetta just the way we left it last Thursday. Jake was able to finagle a quick stop at the Camarillo outlets for 2 new pairs of shoes. When I finally got home, I made my way to my room and crashed out for 4 hours! A well deserved nap, I was physically and emotionally exhausted!
School starts tomorrow for Morgan, she is taking 6 classes. It should be an exciting semester for her. Living in Salt Lake will be a new adventure and I know she will really enjoy it there. She has already found out about a couple of farmer markets and festivals that she is looking forward to going to.
