This contest was put on by Gatorade and they had free bottles of Gatorade all day long. Jake and Tyler got goodie bags with a bunch of stuff with the Gatorade logo on it. After the kids 12 and under were done competing it was time for the more serious skaters to get warmed up. I got out of the truck to get some pictures and it started raining... They had to post pone the contest till the rain stopped and then we waited an hour while the park dried. Good thing concrete dries fairly quickly.
But they did use a lot of Gatorade towels and a leaf blower to help dry the park out.
Jake did really well in his heat and advanced to the semi finals. 10 guys out of 40 went to the semi finals. Jake did good again, landing several difficult tricks and showed off some technical footwork combinations. 5 guys moved onto the finals and Jake was not in that group. From my unbiased eye Jake landed several more tricks then 2 of the boys who advanced.
Sunday was another Gatorade contest, this time in Simi Valley. Jake had about the same outcome. He made it to the semi finals but not the finals.
After the contest Eddie drove Jake to the airport where he left for Salt Lake City. Morgan picked him up and took him to his 3rd contest in Layton. This contest was put on by Zumies. The morning of the contest Jake woke up unable to walk because his hip had swollen. I guess he landed on it pretty hard on Saturday and then again on Sunday. Morgan had to take him to urgent care. The doctor said he could drain the swelling but that he would be too sore to compete or he could tough it out and let the swelling subside on its own. Jake decided to let nature take its course. He took some Advil and headed out for the contest.
Morgan was able to get him there just in time to compete. He landed 2 very difficult tricks and then called it quits because of the pain. (The video of the tricks are on Morgan's blog)
On Wednesday morning Jake was out skating with a few of his Salt Lake friends and split his chin open. His friends thought he should get for a couple of stitches, but Jake decided to pass on the 2nd trip to urgent care. He seems to be walking OK and not at all concerned about his chin gash. I'm hoping to get him to the chiropractor tomorrow.

Wow! I can't believe all the injuries he accepts...I would be in traction! What a talented boy you have!
Sheesh! Rough weekend! We enjoyed visiting with them for a little bit!
Did NOT know about the split chin. Jeez. Jake did pretty good in his heat in Layton as far as doing tricks, he just didnt worry about landing them because he didnt want to risk falling on his hip more.
What a tropper.
Wow he sure keeps busy. Thats a lot of competition.
I'm glad my boys only played soccer (those injuries were bad enough)I guess with skateboarding if you are any good at all you are going to get hurt(pushing the limits).
Wow sounds like that boy is tough!
