Contest

Jake is competing in the "Ultimate Boarder" contest again this year. Jake has been looking forward to the contest for quite some time. The athletes range from professional to amateur. The age range is across the board. Jake is one of the younger competitors. Athletes compete in three boarding events; snowboarding, surfing and skateboarding. It started this last weekend in Big Bear with the snowboarding competition. Eddie said it was a warm day and pretty slushy but that it was a fun day and they had a good time. I just found out the results for the snowboarding and Jake came in 30th. I think he was a little frustrated with the judging (typical contest judging, where the more known you are the better you score). Still Jake is satisfied with his performance and hopes to move up as the contest goes on. I believe there are about 60 athletes competing in the contest. Wednesday will be the surfing and Saturday will be skateboarding. Both of those events are held here in Ventura. This year Fuel TV will be broadcasting the event. The website doesn't seem to be streaming the events live like they did last year. One of the local papers interviewed Jake.

VC Reporter article on Jake

The previous weekend Jake went to Mammoth to get some practice in and while he was there he injured his shoulder. When he got home from Mammoth he had no mobility in his right arm. The doctor said it was between a first and second degree shoulder separation. I guess third degree is when they consider surgery. Jake has been in physical therapy every day since. We weren't sure if he was even going to be able to compete. After 3 days of physical therapy he had some mobility back in his right shoulder. Jake was determined to still compete. After having the doctor tape his shoulder, Jake and Eddie headed out to Big Bear for the weekend. They had a good time in Big Bear and stayed in a beautiful lakeside cabin. Jake went to physical therapy again today and I'm sure he will continue till the contest is over. I'm glad Jake is healing and able to compete in the contest and I'm looking forward to watching his performance this week.
